We’re taught to look for opportunities. Better opportunities, bigger opportunities, opportunities that move us forward. But sometimes, opportunity doesn’t look like opportunity at all. Sometimes, it looks like a challenge.
The harder practice. The race you’re not sure you can win. The new team. The unfamiliar environment. The workout that exposes the gap between where you are and where you want to be. It’s easy to see these things as obstacles. But choosing to face them is often choosing to put yourself in a position to grow.
Challenge forces you to learn something. It might reveal a weakness you didn’t know you had, force you to develop a skill you were avoiding, or show you that your limits were further away than you thought. Even when the outcome isn’t what you wanted, the experience can leave you better equipped for the next opportunity.
That’s why athletes shouldn’t only ask, “What opportunity can I find?” Sometimes the better question is, “What challenge can I take on?”
Because the challenge itself can become the opportunity.
At Lane Zerø, we believe in what happens beyond what people see. The hours of work, the uncomfortable practices, the setbacks, and the moments where you have to choose whether to keep going. Those moments aren’t separate from progress. They’re part of it.
Seek the challenge. You might be seeking your next opportunity.
